Through specific monographs we study in greater depth the ethical problems arising from the application of advances in science and medicine. Aspects as relevant as patient autonomy, informed consent, doctor's rights and data protection, amongst others, have been the subject of these very practical monographs.

The work has two distinct parts. The first contains a tour of the state of the science and future prospects in each of the different phases of life that can occur in genetic medicine clinic (preconception, embryonic, prenatal and postnatal care, the latter both children and adults) as well as about the situation and expectations of pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics, all so informative and exposed by the best clinicians working this field in Spain.
The second part addresses the legal perspective of bioethics and genetic medicine clinic, with special emphasis on the scope of autonomy of the citizen and the responsibility as the key ethical imperative that has to preside over this medical specialty. This section of the work includes a final chapter on the horizon of human genetic enhancement and eugenics problem, which we review the trends of thought and most important ethical theories of our day, from the position of so-called "bioconservadores" to the known as the "transhumanist" or supporters of improvement, including also the religious vision.
In short, this is an indispensable work for anyone who wants to know the true extent today of genetic medicine clinic and know where we are going in this exciting field of science.
